オールスター戦 ア・リーグ粘り勝ち

A.L. Hangs On in Baseball’s All-Star Game
( New York Times )

It was supposed to be Barry Bonds’s All-Star Game, Bonds’s latest, greatest show. It was his stadium, his baseball town, his Giants fans and his chance to hammer a ball into orbit.

But Bonds was gone by the fourth inning, hitless yet still happy.

Instead of Bonds dominating the game, Ichiro Suzuki came closest to doing so. Suzuki had the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history, and added two singles and drove in two runs to power the American League over the National League, 5-4.

Matsuzaka Blanks Bonds and the Giants
(New York Times)

Start with one of America’s most hitter-friendly stadiums, Fenway
Park, and add Barry Bonds, one of baseball’s most productive
sluggers. What do you get?

On this Saturday, the 36,381 fans and a national television audience got seven innings of excellent pitching from Daisuke Matsuzaka of
the Red Sox and Matt Cain of the Giants. They were as brilliant as
the late-afternoon sunshine that made the nation’s oldest ballpark glow.
